Throughout Jesus ministry he taught people about the Kingdom of God. There are many passages where he gives stories and illustrations to this fact: – the Sower, the Wheat and Tares, Mustard Seed, Leven, Hidden Treasure, Priceless Pearl and Dragnet. Plus Jesus and his disciples, through the Gospels and letters, spoke regularly about the importance of the Kingdom. Jesus said, “Your Kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. We are also told to “Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness”.
So what is the Kingdom? Is the Church the Kingdom? To put it simply the Kingdom is the rule and reign of God in our lives. It is the outworking of His enabling power in various forms, through us, through the evidence of His healings and miracles, through the outworking of love and justice, it’s forgivenss and compassion and it’s the visibility of a transformed community. The Kingdom creates the Church, works through the Church and is proclaimed to the world by the Church. The Church displays or should display in this evil age, the life of The Age to come!
Do we truly recognise the Kingdom’s great worth and significance?
Like the parables above:- individuals respond differently; the Kingdom is growing together with others until harvest time; it begins small but grows to something great; the Kingdom grows in raw material; it’s hidden for individual purchase; it demands abandoment of all other values and the Kingdom ends with the final separation.
Our life is all about Kingdom living, so lets be active participants in extending and expressing God’s Kingdom here on earth.
May “His Kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven!”
