What does it mean when Jesus says in the Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father?”  It’s a pretty challenging verse isn’t it when we think about it?  First of all as we look at it in its context we see that Jesus is talking about people who appear to have it all together, even doing things that ‘look’ godly, but underneath he knows their real motive and heart.  We can draw principles today from this passage and be challenged. Jesus starts in verse 15 onwards by saying that by their fruit we will recognize who belongs to God. But then he says not everyone who says Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of God only those who do the Father’s will.
What is the Father’s will then? The Father’s desire (will) was that all people through faith, would believe in his son, Jesus, would believe in his death and resurrection, repent of their sins and accept him as their personal Saviour.  After making this heart commitment, they would then allow the Spirit to lead them to follow Jesus in obedience to his word; loving God and others and sharing their faith
In John 6:40 Jesus says, “For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 3:16  also says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
How are we all travelling today? Have you received Jesus as your personal Saviour? Is Jesus saying to you, “I really don’t know you? Are we exhibiting the right kind of fruit and/or do we have the right kind of heart attitude that desires to please our Lord and Saviour?
God bless
Julie
